The
Nobel Prize in Physics 2014 was awarded jointly to Isamu Akasaki,
Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura "for the invention of efficient blue
light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white
light sources".

Shuji Nakamura received the Jan Czochralski Award during the 2007 E-MRS Fall Meeting and was also plenary speaker at the 1998 E-MRS Spring Meeting in Strasbourg, France where he presented his progress towards amber LED's and long-lived violet laser diodes.
