The "Irving Penn: Centennial" retrospective is traveling to São Paulo, Brazil, where it will be on view at Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS Paulista) from August 21 through November 18, 2018. This will be the first major exhibition of Penn’s work in South America.
Organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in collaboration with The Irving Penn Foundation in honor of the one-hundredth anniversary of Irving Penn's birth, the exhibition presents more than 230 photographs and offers an in-depth survey of Penn’s exceptionally diverse and prolific career. The international tour was made possible with the support of the Terra Foundation for American Art. Admission is free to the public.
A Portuguese edition of the exhibition catalogue is published by IMS in partnership with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, edited by Maria Morris Hambourg and Jeff L. Rosenheim, with essays by Maria Morris Hambourg, Jeff L. Rosenheim, Alexandra Dennett, Philippe Garner, Adam Kirsch, Harald E.L. Prins, and Vasilios Zatse. The catalogue features more than 365 reproductions of Irving Penn’s most important works, representing key phases of his photographic career.
